Let's Tidy Tollcross Together

Nobody likes litter yet it is a problem that affects every community across Glasgow East. Even though the vast majority of us aren't causing the problem, we can all do something about it.

That's why I and Councillor Laura Doherty were delighted to attend the launch of a new community scheme in Tollcross today which aims to tackle the problem of litter in the area.

Tidy Tollcross Together is a joint initiative between Glasgow City Council and the local community. It has seen a new bespoke storage unit installed at Tollcross Advice and Learning Centre which will house litter picking equipment that can be used by local residents, schools and community groups. Auchenshuggle & Tollcross Community Council were successful through Area Partnership funding in securing the unit, while Glasgow City Council's Neighbourhood Improvement Service kindly donated the kit.

The launch event saw the community, including some of my youngest constituents, come together to take part in a litter pick around the local area. It was great to see so many people getting involved and doing their bit to help keep the area clean and tidy.

The different community groups, schools, businesses and housing associations operating in the Tollcross area already work well together and I hope that this new initiative will further strengthen those relationships.

Well done to everyone who did their bit today and I look forward to helping to do my bit again soon to help keep Tollcross tidy.
