Wellhouse welcomes new community café

I had the pleasure of visiting the newly-opened community café at the Hub in Wellhouse earlier today and chatting to the mother and daughter team who have taken over the running of it.

Jackie and Beth are no strangers to working in the community. The pair have been running East End Flat Pack Meals for several years. The non-for profit enterprise is a volunteer led food project which aims to provide local communities with affordable and healthy recipe packs to cook at home every week. Jackie also delivers popular cooking lessons to all ages, giving people the confidence to cook healthy, nutritious meals.

The café is a vibrant addition to the area, providing local people with a bright, airy space to catch up over a cuppa. The community is at the heart of future plans for the café, with an active consultation bringing in ideas to shape the service. The ‘Bright Ideas’ wall is full of suggestions from people who see the potential the new venture has to offer.

This engagement from the local community is truly fantastic to see and the team at Flat Pack Meals is hopeful that Wellhouse residents will step forward to become board members and support the continued growth of the venture. If you can spare an hour or two each month to attend board meetings and you think that you can provide positive input, then get in touch with the team at eastendflatpackmeals@gmail.com.
