Promoting Parkrun

As a keen runner, I'm delighted to report that I've been elected as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Parkrun.

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5k runs across the world. Every Saturday morning in the UK, more than 600 Parkruns take place in parkland surroundings, with tens of thousands of people taking part. In total, over 2 million runners have taken part in a Parkrun event, running a distance of over 167million kilometres! The magic of Parkrun is that it's for everyone—from the serious runners seeking a personal best time, to those seeking a more leisurely jog.

We're very fortunate to have a weekly Parkrun event in the East end at Tollcross Park. Operated by a very dedicated band of local volunteers, the run attracts hundreds of keen runners, joggers and walkers every single week. Every time I've taken part in the run, or volunteered to help marshall, I've been hugely impressed with the dedication and commitment shown by everyone involved.

I’m really excited to play an active role in promoting Parkrun through this group, and hope that we can make sure that this wonderful volunteer-led phenomenon continues to get the recognition and support it deserves.

Tollcross Parkrun starts at 9:30am every Saturday from the Winter Gardens. Even if you aren’t a runner, you can still get involved by volunteering to help marshall. Full details are in the links below.
