Landfill site is a blight on the East End of Glasgow

I am very proud to stand in solidarity with the residents of Broomhouse, Mount Vernon, Baillieston, and all over the East End who are campaigning against the Paterson's landfill site.

I had the opportunity to join some of them this morning at a protest outsite the site, which enabled us all to channel our frustration and anger into activism.

The smell emanating from the site has plagued the East End, causing Scottish environment watchdog SEPA to recently take unprecedented enforcement action. It only seemed fitting then to ask passing drivers to Honk because it's honkin'.

The Paterson's landfill site is a disgrace, and it is not welcome in our community. I stand with residents in saying that we will not welcome any planning application to extend the site. The site has been operating for far too long, and it is time for it to be shut down once and for all.

The residents of the East End have made it clear why Paterson's can't keep operating and it is essential that we prioritize the well-being of our communities over the profits of a landfill company with little regard for its obligations.
