16 days of activism: Parliamentary petition

This evening on day 4 of my 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, I gave a voice to my constituents by presenting a petition in the House of Commons in which they have called for action to bring about the eradication of violence against women and girls.

We can tackle this issue at home and in our communities, by speaking to friends and family about issues such as domestic abuse, raising awareness, and supporting organisations like Glasgow East Women's Aid.

But we must also look further afield. For instance, to the war in Ukraine which will undoubtedly see a rise in gender-based violence due to the ongoing conflict, and to Iran where protests began after a young woman, Mahsa Amini, was beaten to death.

I am very grateful to my constituents for making their voices heard on this hugely important issue. Although the conversation must continue year round, these 16 days are about making it so loud that it can't be ignored.
