16 days of activism: Glasgow East Women's Aid

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Today also marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign for change.

Despite all of our progress, violence against women and girls still remains the most pervasive human rights violation around the world.

These violations sadly happen every day right here in Glasgow.

To start my own 16 Days of Activism, I've visited Glasgow East Women's Aid today to catch up with staff and to hear first-hand the issues they're dealing with.

This really is an essential service which provides support, refuge, and counselling to those who need it.

Staff at the centre also provide training to agencies and individuals to ensure that support reaches far beyond their doors.

Unfortunately, domestic abuse is still a significant problem in the East end of Glasgow.

The demand for the specialised services that Glasgow East Women's Aid provides is sadly still incredibly high.

As their elected representative I will do all I can to support the centre and the work that they do.

I will also do what I can to bring about change.

I know money is tight for many, but if you are in a position to make a donation to Glasgow East Women's Aid, you can do so on their JustGiving page.

And whether or not you are in a position to donate, please follow me on my 16 Days of Activism and help out by sharing campaign messages and posts.

Let's unite and push forward to help bring an end to violence against women and girls.
